The workshop served as a platform to raise awareness of IPv6 adoption, strengthen collaboration among key stakeholders, and support Somalia’s digital transformation agenda by promoting the deployment of next-generation Internet technologies and enhancing the country’s digital infrastructure.

Delivering the opening remarks, Eng. Mohamed Ahmed Mohamud, Rector of Jamhuuriya University of Science and Technology (JUST), underscored the importance of preparing the next generation of ICT professionals to support Somalia’s digital future.

“Preparing the next generation of ICT professionals is essential for Somalia’s digital future. Universities have a critical role in advancing IPv6 knowledge, research, and innovation, and in equipping students with the skills needed to support the country’s digital transformation,” he said.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Mustafa Yasiin Sheikh, Director General of the National Communications Authority, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to ensuring Somalia keeps pace with global technological developments through the implementation of IPv6.

“Our vision has always been to ensure that Somalia does not fall behind the global technological transition. Today, we are planning not only for current Internet needs but also for future generations, ensuring they have access to modern technologies and are prepared for the continued growth of the digital economy.

The development also points to the growing importance of economic governance and investor confidence as Somalia works to strengthen institutions and deepen regional partnerships.
