Before meeting Traoré, Ambassador Khalif submitted copies of his credentials to Burkina Faso’s foreign minister, in line with diplomatic protocol, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
During the meeting, the ambassador conveyed a message of goodwill from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, reaffirming Mogadishu’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. President Traoré welcomed the envoy’s appointment and expressed Burkina Faso’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Somalia, particularly in trade, security and broader areas of mutual interest, according to the Somali government.
The appointment comes as Somalia seeks to deepen diplomatic engagement across Africa, with Mogadishu increasingly pursuing closer ties with fellow African states on issues including security cooperation, economic partnerships and regional integration. Burkina Faso, like Somalia, continues to face security challenges linked to Islamist insurgencies, making counterterrorism and security collaboration areas of shared interest.
The episode underscores the continuing pressure on Somali institutions as the federal government and regional authorities seek to balance security operations with political stability and public confidence.
